You've probably heard it before: your hair grows faster in the summer. But is that really the case? Does this also apply to the beard hairs? And why is that? We explain.
The beard grows in phases
Just like the hair on your head, the beard grows in phases: growth phase, resting phase, loss phase. This cycle is continuously completed. The growth phase is generally in the summer, so it's true: your beard grows faster in the summer. And so does your head hair.
Why does the beard grow faster in the summer?
Beard and hair growth are stimulated in the summer by sunlight and vitamin D. Vitamin D is produced by the body under the influence of sunlight that hits the skin and ensures that your hair follicles, and therefore your hair, grow faster. Sunlight not only makes your hair grow faster, but also your nails. The heat of the sun also plays a role: blood vessels open and therefore absorb more oxygen and other nutrients.
